The Merah Putih Satellite’s Orbit All Over Social

Telkom Indonesia has officially launched its’ Merah Putih satellite from Cape Canaveral, Florida. The Merah Putih satellite holds 60 active transponders, consisting of 24 C-band transponders and 12 extended C-band transponders to cover Southeast Asia. The satellite will be stationed in the orbit slot within 108 degrees east longitude or approximately above the Karimata Straits region. The Merah Putih satellite was manufactured by Space Systems Loral (SSL), and was launched into orbit on August 7th

In addition to the two active satellites that Telkom owns, namely Telkom-2 and Telkom 3S, This Satellite is hoped to cover the Southeast Asia region andincrease the number of Telkom’s transponders from 73 to 133 transponders, all in effort to strengthen Telkom Group’s satellite business and to move forward and push Government or State owned Enterprises in a global scale.

The launching of this Merah Putih Satellite stirred up quite a buzz on social, 106k (106.906) in total, to be exact. We monitored all about this topic from the  6th up until the 13th  of August, and our tool captured 10.744 post regarding Telkom’s newest satellite from Twitter (9.304 posts), Youtube ( 130 posts), and Instagram (1086 posts). We also captured 45 linked Facebook posts and 13 Blog posts regarding this topic, along with the 161 articles that were posted through online media portals, and 5 Forum threads on Kaskus that consist of 171 posts within the existing threads.

As you can see, the hype was mainly all over Twitter, so we decided to take a closer look. With 9.304 posts alone, our tool found that there were 5.077 interactions on Twitter, with a viral reach of 10 million, and a maximum potential reach of 195 Million. It’s safe to say, this was a huge day for Telkom and for Indonesia. Now, Twitter is all about conversations..and hashtags. Sonar was able to capture some major hashtags, such as #SatelitMerahPutih, #SatelitIndonesia, #EnergiMerahPutih, #SelaluAda, #BUMNUntukNegeri, and #73TahunIndonesia. A lot of people were buzzing about this launch, we found that a lot of the conversations on social revolved around; streaming the launching event, Space X, and the Falcon 9 Rocket that carried this satellite, reasons behind Telkom’s decision to launch the Merah Putih satellite, even facts about the Satellite that generated 253 view counts on Kaskus alone, one of which was about Jasindo covering the insurance for this satellite.
